In this post, we want to take you to start the day in Bukittinggi with beautiful scenery. When at the weekend, we spend our morning time by walking around Sianok Canyon.

Sianok Canyon is a steep valley (cliff) that located in the border town of Bukittinggi, the Koto IV district, Agam regency, West Sumatra. Ngarai Sianok, as people call it,  has two steep walls facing each other and almost vertically, falling to a flat bottom where a river meanders among green rice fields. Its height is about 100 to 120 meters and the canyon itself is for about 15 km long. This cliff separates the towns of Bukittinggi and Kota Gadang on its opposite side.

The beauty of Sianok canyon can be seen from Panorama Park in Bukittinggi or by walking down into the cliff, where are a settlement and paddy fields. Along with admiring the beauty of Sianok, visitors can also visit a Japanese bunker which was built during World War II and is located at the base of the canyon. But we are not going to Panorama Park and Japanese bunker. We just keep walking to the bottom of the canyon.

Looking for some green rice fields will make our day full of passion. Starting the day to visit this place in Bukittinggi is worth it!

Have a nice day!
Stay tuned for more of our adventures in Bukittinggi.
Happy travel and leave no trash!

I went to Ngarai Sianok a few years ago. I didn’t ride through the bottom of the canyon, instead I stopped in a restaurant somewhere and ate itiak lado mudo. Such delicacy!
